Word of mouth and referrals often bring in the majority of your new customers. Need to generate some new business? Ask your existing customers if they know of anyone who would benefit from your products or services and encourage them to refer them to you. Hell, ask your friends, family and wider networks too!
Having a referral programme in place to reward this behaviour is an amazing marketing tool. It can be as simple as a thank you card or something more lavish like a gift box or dinner voucher. How much budget you allocate to this will depend on the value of your product or service. People will be more inclined to refer others if there’s something in it for both parties (e.g. $50 off your next order and a $50 voucher for your friend).
HelloFresh do this so well – giving free meal boxes out to contacts of existing customers and offering discounts when people sign up with your personalised code.
